Letter of the day?

The following article was found on the mX newspaper (a freebie paper that they give out in Sydney train stations) titled:

Nuclear is not the only way forward

READ: "For example, burning hydrogen created by hydrolysis...... and shortage of fresh water at the same time."

This brings me to think of a fallacious idea put forth many years ago.
1. It is known that the Earth has a magnetic field
2. It is known that by moving a coil through a magnetic field, we are able to generate a current via induction.
3. A satelite moving in orbit will be able to generate electricity by induction hence generating enough energy to sustain basic functions.

Find the fallacy in the above proposal.
First correct answer will receive an e-peen.

Just a guess... satellite in orbit actually remains so because there are no appreciable net forces acting on it.

So if it were to be used to generate electricity by induction, the resulting force would throw it out of its orbit and spoil the system (from the observation that you actually need to apply a force to move a coil through a field - switch to cows, MOOOOO)

Kinda like the perpetual motion fallacies i think.

You talking about which above proposal? The hydrolysis one or the magnetic field one?

Hydrolysis one is like you will get another Hinderberg Tragedy if you so like to burn hydrogen. It just goes boom and your whole facility + workers all gone.

As for the magnetic field, Gilbert is right I think, you will generete some EMF which will oppose the motion of the object, thus decelerating the satalite and in the end, you wont have any satalite left after it disintegrate into the Earth's atmosphere.

omg no one has spotted the hydrolysis problem.

USING energy to hydrolyse water and then burning the end product? isnt that merely wasting energy?
