Some clarifications...
I think there is a need for me to define the word muggers... When i refer to muggers, I'm referring to those who have no other goals in life, don't do anything at all but just study... People with no work-life balance.. Hence, strictly speaking perhaps we should not use the word mugger so freely, since it has a negative connotation attached to it as what peanut suggested..
Hence when I condemn muggers, i'm only referring to a small cross section of people, though there are also many pseudo-muggers.. People who appear to be muggers but are actually not, because we do not know them well to form an appropriate judgement... So maybe at times, we may be unfair when using the label 'mugger' a bit too freely...
In fact, there is nothing wrong with people who work hard.. In fact, I admire them for having the discipline to get themselves to study on a regular basis.. This is especially the case for peanut, who is definitely not a mugger by definition.. Though we might have offended him in wrongly labelling him a mugger at times... To that i offer my apologies..
I'm not saying that flair is all encompassing and can replace hard work.. True, it does give us an unfair advantage over others, but that's life.. People make use of their advantage over others to a certain extent... Its just like tall people who make use of their height advantage in basketball etc... Since we all have the flair, why shouldn't we make use of it..
However, we should not make abuse our flair and completely boycott till the very last moment.. Something which I am rather guilty of.. In fact, i personally believe that the golden standard for someone who combines flair and hard work is someone like CSQ... He just do his tutorials regularly and just study for his test the day before and is NOT someone who only care about studying...
But i can never get myself to do so, something which I have to change, especially since CSQ is going france and i can no longer depend on him for tutorials etc... However, we are not following CSQ in taking modules blindly, since we do discuss through before really taking up the modules... Perhaps u all can try motivating me to study...
While I am interested in investment and stock markets, I personally believe that a Chemical Engineering degree is much more valuable than a business degree.. Furthermore, u do not necessary have to work in the area in which u are studying... Why should we constraint ourselves to what we study for, though i must admit that it is rather wasteful to spend my time doing engineering, when my interest lies elsewhere...
As peanut have said, people often neglect the hard work behing 'geniuses'.. I never claim to be able to just anyhow buy shares and make big money.. But i do know the local bourse to a certain extent and have been monitoring it quite regularly, since I'm maintaining a portfolio for my sister and it has been doing rather well...
That's all for the time being...
