Choices...
Hi guys...
Long time no see.. Sheesh.. Just survived through a hell of a week facing mid terms, presentation deadlines and symphonia(band) commitments.. Anyway, was just pondering about this qns..
Would you rather,
1) Stay home and mug to aim for your first class honours, yet involving yourself in minimal
non-academic activites (such as being in exco of a cca / student-body committee), or
2) Sacrifice your studies (no second class honours) n get yourself involved in extensive non-
academic commitments. Yet, you are able to gain really valuable work experience, be it
public relations, leading teams (good or bad), handling really insane stress and pressure,
really lots of politicking, conflicts management, etc etc..
Anyway, i was having this work-retreat with symphoni a over the weekend.. My club president was just sharing his experience with us. Well, he took the 2nd choice.. Kinda sacrifice his studies and being a 4th yr, he hasn't done his internship.. All for the sake of setting up the cca from scratch and to build it to its current structure and status.. Can tell u it's really no easy task, considering tt we do have to persuade the sch to acquire $0.5m worth of assets for the club which is to be managed totally by students. Not just tt, he did take part in the sch's C onvocation* organising committee which contributes the most insane work load (think of normal sch hrs as 8am to 4am)..
Yet, he was really able to grow as a leader during these experiences.. seriously, it's my first time to know some1 who can confidently lead and manage a highly structured organisation, manage politics (lot's of redtape here, and lot's of politics among student bodies) and handle conflicts. Also being a great judge of ppl/character/attitudes, and possess intuitive understanding of implications of actions/events... Really respected him for his work and how he carried himself. Anyway, it's not just him, there are other seniors who are doing the same thing (maybe not to his extent). I'm sure these qualities will be more useful than damn good grades while adapting to a dynamic work environment outside. In the end, does it matter if one does get a first class honours?
Sheesh.. am i able to make tt kind of decision.. Where would one find the motivation to make it through the second choice..
