An Astute Observation

Usually malaysian speak chinese differently with their own slang, I just wondered what exactly was it that made the slang. Usually is those more rural areas then the slang more obvious. I think come from KL one not that obvious, I not sure.

So today on the bus I eavesdropped on two malaysian girls talking to each other. Then i realise liao, is in the intonation. For those words pronounced in the fourth tone one e.g. pao4 (cannon), xiao4(laugh), pang4(fat) etc., alot of such words they pronounce in the di yi sheng (xi1)west, fei1(fly) etc. An astute observation (if i may say so myself).! But is not all the fourth tone words they pronounce in first tone. I dunno is depend on the placing of the word in the sentence or the word itself.

For a very very good example, please think back to how Hon Yew Pin pronounced the sentence, "Like Ghost Liddat".

i dun remember colonel sanders talking like the m'sians~

n i'm just wondering: why do they talk like that if they are taught hanyupinying? is hanyupinying a singapore invention? Is there a singaporean accent where we pronounce some words wrongly (from china chinese) as well?

i mean, we talk different from the prcs as well no?
